Growing up in the high-octane, perfection-driven international metropolis of Hong Kong, Maya was initially influenced by minimalism and contemporary design. Yet, beneath the polished surfaces, she grew curious about the beauty of the ephemeral and the corners forgotten by time.

While many artists pursue precision and smoothness, Maya deliberately chose a medium with more tangible and raw power: plaster. The plaster's granularity, the cracks that form upon drying, and the natural sedimentation of its color became an escape from the shackles of 'perfection,' mirroring the very texture of the city itself.
